Hotels/Meals/Transportation/Tour/Registration

Hotels: The meeting hotel will be the Hilton Arlington Hotel, located at 2401 East Lamar Blvd., Arlington, TX 76006-7503. All of the rooms of the Hilton were renovated and re-decorated during the past year. Arrangements have been made for a block of rooms to be held, and early reservations are encouraged to avoid disappointment. Room costs will be $85.00 per night with free parking and complimentary van service to/from DFW Airport from 7:00am-10:00pm. To make arrangements for van service to the Hilton from DFW Airport, please call the Hilton Hotel upon arrival at the airport (10 miles away). The hotel main phone number, for reservations and pickups, is 1-817-640-3322 Reservations must be secured with a credit card before September 12, 2008 after which unreserved rooms will be released (if there are unreserved rooms). Please ask for the "Garrett Lectures (code GAR)" rate when making reservations. Please remember that SHD only has a limited block of rooms, and once they are reserved there is no requirement on the part of the hotel to make additional rooms available.

Meals: Your registration will include the October 5 evening reception, continental breakfasts at UTA on October 6-7, lunch on October 6, and SHD Annual Dinner on October 6. There will be no lunch served on October 7 since the meeting will end by 1:00 p.m.

Transportation: Transportation to and from the Hilton Arlington Hotel and UTA will be provided, and each registrant will be sent a bus schedule upon registration. Please be aware that Arlington does not have a mass transit system so attendees wanting to sightsee in the Dallas-Fort Worth area may want to rent a car. NOTE: SHD Paper Sessions are expected to conclude by 1:00 PM on Tuesday October 7. For those planning flights departing from DFW later that day, organizers suggest booking no flights departing sooner that 5:00 PM, thus allowing for time to transit from the meeting venue back to the hotel, retrieving luggage, and then continuing by hotel van to DFW airport.

Optional Pre-conference Tour: The Local Arrangements Committee has planned a pre-conference tour for Sunday, October 5, which will focus on the culture of Fort Worth and the surrounding area. Chick here for more details.

Registration: A registration brochure for the SHD meeting will be sent to members in the Summer of 2008. Details of the meeting are contained within this 2008 meeting website, and the registration form can now be downloaded and completed to register for the SHD meeting and the SHD optional tour. SHD Registration must be received not later than Friday September 26, 2008.
